Bowen and Young Join Newport County

South Wales rivals Newport County have signed former Cardiff City duo Jason Bowen and Scott Young. Supporters of the Exiles will be delighted with the double coup ahead of the 2004/2005 Conference South campaign.

Former Bluebirds duo Jason Bowen and Scott Young have both signed for South Walian rivals Newport County ahead of the 2004/2005 season.

Bowen was released by City at the end of last season after suffering from a series of niggling injuries. Only a couple of years ago, former manager Alan Cork claimed Bowen had what it took to play in the Premiership, but despite interest from Second and Third Division clubs the versatile forward lacks the motivation to play in the Football League and can stay settled with his family in South Wales by moving to Spytty Park.

Scott Young was forced into retirement at the end of last season after over a decade’s service as a Bluebird. He will continue his capacity at Ninian Park as youth officer, but will turn his attentions to playing for Newport where he will add experience to their defence in the new look Conference South.

Although there is traditionally rivalry between Newport and City, it would be great to see them back in the Football League again and some more heated South Wales derbies with the Exiles would be fantastic. Bowen and Young will be seen as great acquisitions by supporters of the club, and manager Peter Nicholas will be looking to take his side into the Conference for the following season.
