Cardiff City 2-1 Coventry City - Match Report

Cardiff City won their first game of the new Football League Championship season with a 2-1 win over Coventry City at Ninian Park. Robert Earnshaw and summer signing Lee Bullock were on the scoresheet as just over 14,000 watched the home side pick up three valuable points.

It was a game of two halves at Ninian Park on Tuesday, as Cardiff City came from behind to win their first game of the Football League Championship campaign. Robert Earnshaw and Lee Bullock were on the scoresheet as the Bluebirds pulled off an impressive and morale boosting 2-1 win over Coventry City.

City were poor for the majority of the first-half, and deservedly went in at the break behind. Former Arsenal midfielder Graham Barrett heading home the opening goal from a corner-kick. However, Lennie Lawrence's pearls of wisdom clearly worked once again as the Bluebirds improved all over the park in the second period with close-range goals from Earnshaw and Bullock reversing the score and giving the hosts a valuable and much-welcomed three points.

Peter Thorne and Willie Boland had not yet recovered from injuries, leaving Lennie Lawrence to pick the same side that drew 2-2 at Gresty Road on the weekend. Fans were disappointed to see James Collins left out again, and Robert Page looks far from solid at the back at times. Paul Parry also sat out on the substitutes bench, and seemingly has a fair amount of work to do to earn his regular place back.
