City could have got a glimpse of life without Rob Earnshaw after crashing to a 1-0 defeat against rivals Stoke City at Ninian Park. Gifton Noel-Williams was on target for the visitors in a heated game at Ninian Park.

Should Robert Earnshaw leave, the Bluebirds were given a message of what it could be like without the highly-rated striker as City crashed to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of rivals Stoke City. A third consecutive Championship defeat sent Cardiff City into the bottom three and hit home a horrible reminder of the dark days at this football club.

Earnshaw, discussing terms with West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns, was replaced by Andy Campbell in the City starting line-up. The former England under-21 international partnered Alan Lee up front whilst Willie Boland returned to the City line-up in midfield. Job McAnuff made his home debut, with Daniel Gabbidon reverting to the unfamiliar left-back role due to the absence of Vidmar through suspension.
