Kav Off as City Fail to Spoil Royal Show

A late Cameron Jerome strike proved only consolation for 10-man Cardiff, who went down 2-1 at the Madjeski against a Reading side unbeaten at home this term. The score flattered the visitors, but they did well to keep battling and get back into the game following the loss of Kavanagh on 56 minutes.

Cardiff City slipped to 20th in the Football League Championship with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Reading at the Madjeski Stadium. Trailing by two goals at the break, the visitors faced a near-impossible task to get anything from the game and the dismissal of Graham Kavanagh in the second-half made things worse, but a late Camerone Jerome strike gave the Bluebirds hope, although it proved little more than consolation.

Darren Williams returned to the backline after being cup-tied for the mid-week League Cup defeat at home to Portsmouth. He replaced Tony Vidmar, woeful against Pompey, with Collins, Gabbidon and Barker making up the rest of the defence in front of Warner. There were no other changes from the side from last Tuesday night.

The defeat leaves Cardiff four points from the drop zone, having taken 19 points from 19 Championship clashes. Next up in the Football League is a home game against Preston North End next Friday, where the Sky television cameras will make their way to Ninian Park. The Lancastrians sit 16th in the table, and look set for a mid-table finish even at this early stage in the campaign.
