Out-of-favour striker Andy Campbell has joined Doncaster Rovers on a temporary basis. Desperate for some match confidence, Campbell will link-up with former Cardiff cult hero Leo Fortune-West at Belle Vue.

In a surprise move, Doncaster Rovers have snapped up Cardiff City forward Andrew Campbell on a short-term loan. Out-of-favour Campbell has been said to the ambitious Football League One side, with Rovers looking to make the play-offs.

Campbell failed to take the opportunity he had when Robert Earnshaw was offloaded to West Bromwich Albion. Some of his performances have been nothing short of atrocious, and he is a player incredibly short of confidence. He has the ability to play in the FL Championship and a move to North England could give him the chance to find some form and score a few goals.

"This is the level of players we are looking at in our quest to get in the play-offs," said Donny boss David Penney, a defender at Ninian Park in the late 90's.

Bluebirds manager Lennie Lawrence has preferred youngster Cameron Jerome to Campbell in the starting XI, and the former Middlesbrough forward has found first-team chances hard to come by. A permanent move to Doncaster cannot be ruled out, though Campbell's high wage packet may prevent such a move happening.

Campbell could partner former team-mate Leo Fortune-West at Doncaster. Fortune-West, a cult hero during his Ninian Park days, has been a big success as Belle Vue having helped Doncaster to promotion last term.
