Cardiff City are back in the relegation battle after a 2-1 reverse at Sunderland. Tony Vidmar's late strike was only consolation as the Black Cats put Bluebirds supporters back in trouble.

Cardiff City find themselves right back in the relegation dogfight with a deserved but expected 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light against title chasing Sunderland. The Black Cats led early at the Stadium of Light, and City's late goal from Tony Vidmar proved little more than consolation. To rub salt into the hurting Bluebird wounds, Irish forward Alan Lee was sent off in the dieing seconds for a professional foul and now faces suspension.

Sunderland were out of the blocks quickly, and the home fans were on their feet as Gary Breen sneaked a shot passed Neil Alexander after only four minutes. The former West Ham United man found the target after connecting with an Andy Welsh cross and City instantly found themselves with a mountain to climb.

The Black Cats then doubled their advantage moments before the interval and the three points looked like heading to the North East club. Dean Whitehead found Marcus Stewart with a cross, and the Scotsman made no mistake in the Bluebirds penalty box to send the hosts into a two-goal lead.
