Spurs news: 4 Yids and a Swede

To fill the void of close season I will be letting International football wash over me like baby oil in a brothel, in fact with a reasonable about of games on, for example the Confederations Cup in Germany being the competition of note, I’m sure it will be an exciting one.

I always find the summer to be very long and drawn out, but last season it was short, very short as we had the Euro Championship to get us going and next season will be the same with the World Cup - which if we have the same level of success as EURO '04 then we are in for a great time. But its always strange when you hear fans saying the international game isn't exciting and qualifying games are not as competitive, friendlies are pointless etc etc. I beg to differ, having followed England for a few years (attending matches) now, I have always been a fan of the international stage but Euro 96 and Portugal last year were the Competitions that really got me passionate about England. It's a great chance to have quality debates with fans from other clubs, but an important feature which will rear its hear by the time Germany comes calling is the development of the Spurs players who maybe in the squad. Sven will have the ability to take 4 Spurs players with him to Germany: Carrick, King, Robinson & Defoe - all of which still have fantastic careers in England jerseys ahead of them. Carrick will be back in the side for the USA games and I hope that the experience will do him some good and help him grow up a little into a player who will be brave enough to make those passes earlier and more accurate than he has done before. Defoe has taken he's foot off the gas since reaching the national side IMO and will need to apply himself with Crouch now getting the nod (who I think will be a great asset to club and country). Robinson will have the number 1 jersey for a few years yet as I cant see another English 'keeper taking it from him for a number for years, with the exception of Green. King Imo will be a fringe player on the International stage, with Terry, CampBell, Ferdinand ahead of him in the pecking order he will have to wait until the Gooner gets older, again King needs to learn from experience whist I can’t stand Sol and co, King could do some good from playing with someone who has played at all levels, since there is a massive gap on Kings CV where is says European Football. As for all the Spurs players with Robinson an exception I would say that the main area they will all benefit from is experience, playing abroad.

I just hope that during the tour of the US and the friendly in Denmark is that all Spurs players get plenty of action, it will help then keep fit during the summer and ready for a new season domestically and playing alongside some players will assist their development.
