Guts, Goals and Glory!

Today's Welsh Cup Semi Final between Carmarthen Town and Aberystwyth Town delivered a feast of football to S4C's viewers, and booked Aber's place in the final of the Welsh Cup.

The game was in stark contrast to yesterday's live S4C title showdown between Llanelli and Rhyl. Both teams were positive from the outset, and the result was a free-flowing game that ebbed and flowed throughout.

Credit should be given to Carmarthen for fighting back from 2-0 down despite contraversially being reduced to 10 men. The sending off of Paul Fowler was, to me, slightly harsh and I had feared it would spoil what had been an excitingly even first half, despite Aber's lead. However, the second half saw Carmarthen take the game to the Seasiders with a positivity that left the onlooker questioning which side were actually a man short.

The extraordinary efforts of the 2nd half understandbly appeared to take it's toll on the Old Gold during extra time, and the attacking presence from the likes of Aberystwyth's Venables, Hughes, Evans and the impressive 16 year old substitute Tom Bradshaw.

Congratulations should be given to both teams for playing out a compelling, free-flowing contest that was a great advert for the league.

Aberystwyth and Bangor City now face the ridiculous situation of having to travel to Llanelli for the Welsh Cup Final, thanks to the FAW 'helpfully' announcing Parc y Scarlets as the venue regardless of the finalists just a few days prior to the weekends semi-finals. Or perhaps the FAW would now like to subsidise the extra travel expenses that both clubs will now face in travelling to South Wales?
