Evans Dismisses Regional League Proposal

FAW member Alun Evans has hit out against rumours that a regional league was discussed at yesterday's Welsh Premier meeting. Earlier in the week, The Western Mail had reported that the FAW were drawing up a proposal to instigate a regional league and playoff system.

Evans explained: "There isn't the remotest suggestion of regional leagues being under consideration by the Welsh Premier League. It probably wouldn't be acceptable to UEFA even if we wished."

Asked what was discussed at Thursday's special meeting held in Caersws, Evans responded: "The Board meeting confined itself to considering the implicatons of UEFA licensing and an overall strategy, including better liaison with the media and building genuine partnerships with the FAW Trust. We will also ask the clubs at their December meeting to approve the funbding of a League Marketing Officer."

This news will come as much relief to the majority of Welsh Premier supporters and officials. Whether summer football was discussed at the meeting remains unclear, but more shall be made clear at the member clubs meeting to be held next month.
