New chairman announced

Following the decision of chairman Bill Taylor to stand down from his position, though remaining with the club in a supporting role to the current board, Leigh RMI have confirmed that local businessman Dominic Speakman will take over as club chairman with immediate effect.

A successful local businessman and keen football supporter, Mr. Speakman takes control at a critical time and will be working tirelessly with the club to ensure that their status in the Blue Square North Division is maintained for next season.

"I see a tremendous future for Leigh RMI" says Speakman. "We have a great town with keen football families who want to have a Club they are proud to call their own'"

Former Chairman Bill Taylor will continue to represent in a supportive role along with other former board members.

With the new stadium developments underway, there can surely be no better time to move forward with enthusiasm and optimism. Speakman's vision for the club is one of pride, community support and success; "a football club represents and serves its local people; performance is of course key to attracting newcomers to the stands and we will be using performance training techniques and sports science to develop elite football". He goes on to emphasise "Our manager Steve Bleasdale is a highly qualified and dynamic coach who will drive our team forward; I want him to have a squad around him which is committed to success."

And what a great start to the new beginning with last Saturday's terrific 3-1 win against Vauxhall Motors; outstanding attacking performances were rewarded, and a clean sheet was only being blotted by an ‘unfortunate' penalty decision.

This is very much a joint venture and Speakman will be asking for the people of Leigh to get behind the lads and come down to the ground on matchdays.

"These are exciting times and I have plans and ideas which will see us exceed anything we have done in the past however it will need us all to pull together".

Next up is a visit to Solihull Moors where Leigh will be seeking to build on their improved form and secure another 3 points to see them climb the table into a more comfortable position. Supporters are encouraged to make the journey and to swell numbers free luxury coach transport will be offered from Leigh.
