Solihull Moors vs. Leigh RMI preview

RMI make their first ever away trip to Solihull Moors on Saturday, with a wave of optimism sweeping through the club after last weekend's vital 3-1 home win over fellow strugglers Vauxhall Motors and the midweek unveiling of ambitious new chairman Dominic Speakman.

The Leythers still prop up the Blue Square North table, but the win over Vauxhall Motors, thanks largely to two Mark Smyth strikes, has revitalised confidence in the RMI camp, particularly when added to the loan signings of Rob Marsh-Evans, from Chester City, and Luke Prosser, from Port Vale, who have considerably shored up the centre of the Leigh defence.

Although RMI have visited Damson Park in the past to face Moor Green, RMI have yet to play an away fixture to the new Solihull Moors club, formed out of a merger before the aforementioned Moors, and Damson Park's previous owners, Solihull Borough.

The new club visited Hilton Park in October, where a rare Andy Heald header gave RMI a deserved share of the spoils from a 1-1 draw that could have quite easily proved to be a vital victory, had Leigh taken a multitude of chances that had come their way.

While RMI are still six points adrift of safety as they go to Solihull, the Moors find themselves precariously positioned just five points ahead of the dreaded drop zone in what is proving to be a closely-fought battle between several sides hoping to avoid relegation at the end of the season, though a last minute strike at Midland rivals Redditch gave them a morale-boosting 1-0 victory in their last outing.
