Alan Kershaw was appointed as Leigh Genesis manager on Friday 3rd December 2010 following the departure by mutual consent of previous boss Mark Maddox.

Kershaw has a wealth of experience as a professional player from 1969 to 1982, apeparing for Preston North End, Southport, Dundee United, Sydney City and IFK Malmo before going on to coach with Preston North End, Everton, Norweigan side FK Mandalskameratene and in Australia as Coaching Director for Football Queensland, with his qualifications including, amongst others, a UEFA Coaching License.

He originally joined Leigh Genesis in the summer of 2010 as manager of the club's new youth team, who stood in second place in the Lancashire Floodlit League at the time of his appointment as first team manager, helping to smooth the progression of the likes of Steve Ferrigan, James Carey, Carl Forrester and Craig Carney in to making the step up from the youth team to representing the club’s first team.

Kershaw's first game in charge was an Evo-Stik League First Division North fixture against Bamber Bridge on Saturday 11th December 2010 at Crilly Park, with Leigh losing 3-1 despite taking an early lead through an Alex Grisedale goal.

Kershaw's first victory in charge of Leigh was a 3-2 win over Trafford at Crilly Park on Tuesday 25th January 2011 with goals from debutant Marvin McDonald, Sam Fairhurst and Nathan McDonald. The third victory of Kershaw's reign was one that he wasn't even present for when Phil Priestley was in the dugout for a 2-1 win over Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday 12th April 2011.
