Kelly calls it a day

Leigh RMI goalkeeper Gary Kelly has finally decided to hang up his gloves and call an end to his two year career after accepting defeat in his attempt to return to action from injury.

The 38 year old had looked set to return to the RMI side after manager Phil Starbuck's public criticism of the recent performances of current goalkeeper Ian Martin, but Kelly has decided that he cannot continue to play after rupturing a ligament in his thumb against Chester City on Boxing Day of last year.

Although it was orginally thought to be a broken thumb, scans revealed it was much more serious than that, with the former Oldham Athletic goalkeeper now deciding to concentrate on his role as assistant manager at RMI.
