AS AIRDRIE 0 GREENHILLS 3


greenhills eased to a well deserved win at espieside against a below par airdrie side.this was airdrie,s second home defeat in 3 games and the men from airdrie can have no complaints

due to the pardoe,s working and capaldi under the weather airdrie made 3 changes to the side which performed so well against windlaw.in came clark,thompson and hendrie with rowan replacing hendrie in goals.

the game started pretty evenly with both sides struggling to create any chances.airdrie thought they had scored after 10 minutes when a cooper knock on was put into the net by gray but the referee adjudged cooper to have fouled his man from the throw in.greenhills had a good chance minutes later but the number 7 wasted the chance by shooting wide.with airdrie giving the ball away with great regularity it was little wonder the men from east kilbride took the lead after 18 minutes.a nice move down the left saw the ball played into the box.smith made a nice challenge but he slipped as he went to clear and the greenhills forward nicked in and hammered a low shot into the net.airdrie responded with their best move of the first half when a 4 man move saw hendrie play a good cross to the back post for edgar,who started the move,header just over.for the rest of the half airdrie had the best of the possession but rarely looked like troubling the greenhills defence and on the counter they looked dangerous with only the final ball preventing chances to increase their lead.half an hour into the game airdrie had their best chance of the half when thomson beat a couple of players and fired a goal bound shot only to see the keeper produce a great save to touch over the bar.just before half time greenhills should have made it 2 but the midfielder fired by the post when it looked easier to score.ht 0-1

no changes at half time as airdrie looked to keep the ball instead of giving it away through the hard pass instead of taking the easy option

the second half however saw greenhills make the early running and ,although they had most of the ball, their end product was disappointing.airdrie though weren,t creating many chances but clark had a free kick easily held by the keeper.greenhills then increased their lead after 60 minutes when a long kick from the keeper wasn,t dealt with by cooper and he let the striker nip in between himself and johnny to slide the ball into the net.2 down and quite frankly it was well deserved by the visitors.airdrie made their first change with capaldi coming on for a below par gray then a second change with burton on for stewart who was toiling with a leg injury.airdrie tried to get back into the game but greenhills worked very well to deny airdrie much joy and instead they looked the more likely to score.indeed they made it 3 after 70minutes when a through ball,which was missed by r graham, saw the strikers cut back to the number 7 who had made a good run to finish the game of with a neat finish.the final substitution saw s graham on for hendrie and airdrie pushed 3 upfront to try and grab something from the game.greenhills were content to sit in and hit on the break and as airdrie pushed forward the game opened up and chances were made by both sides.however no more goals were scored and the game finished 3-0 to the men from east kilbride

after the windlaw performance airdrie went into today,s game with a lot of confidance and despite 3 changes still had a very strong starting 11.however after this 90 minutes you would have thought it was an entirely different side which was well beaten by greenhills, a side who worked their socks off and didn,t give airdrie many chances but kept the ball well and won all the second and third balls in the tackle.too many players didn,t perform and only they can answer why but today wasn,t about individuals but a team performance which fell way below the standards which we have played to this season.hopefully this was our poorest performance of the year out of the way and it will be interesting to see how the boys respond next wk. credit again to greenhills for their display and they showed on this form that they will be there or thereabout at the end of the season.
