AS Airdrie 2-1 Vale United

On a very windy day Airdrie produced some nice passing play in the early stages of the match with Neil Pardoe seeing a lot of the ball on the left hand side. It wasn't long before they had there first effort on goal when Capaldi was sent clear down the left and his centre ball found Smith who had made a storming run but the keeper saved well as Smith tried to place the ball inside his left hand post. Kenny pardoe worked an opening for himself on the right but didn't cause the keeper to much problems. Airdrie should however have taken the lead when Vale's centre half mistimed an arial ball, Gray got a flick on for Capaldi who choose to try and lob the keeper first time but failed to get enough height on the ball to clear the keeper. Meantime Vale had hardly threatened Hendrie's goal but as luck would have it won a penalty when Ross Graham was adjudged to have brought down his man in the box. Vale scored from the spot despite a good effort from Hendrie to keep it out. by now the wind had picked up and turned slightly and Airdrie were facing up to it for the last ten minutes of the half but saw it through to go in 1-0 down at the break.

Airdrie didnt really start the half well, by trying to use the wind the long ball became all to obvious and Vale's backline seemed to be dealing with it well. Kenny Pardoe picked up a ball wide on the right and tried to go at Vale's defence however just as the attack looked thwarted Capaldi broke away with the ball and cut inside the box one glance up saw Edgar rushing into the centre and the Striker found him with a perfect pass for Edgar to slam the ball home for a deserved equaliser. This spurred Airdire on and they went in front when Stewart sent superb pass out to Gray who sprung the offside before tearing down the left and knocking a low ball in for his strike partner Capaldi who clipped it in to the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Shortly after the ref called a halt to proceedings and Airdrie must now wait for an outcome to this decision which was made by the Ref.
