Airdrie have taken all 12 points from Queens Park this season and today Allan Russell with assists from Stuart Noble and Ricky Waddell broke the Spiders and equaled Jerome Varielles scoring record for goals scored in one season. In other news It mean I owe Andy Waite £36, cheers Allan
Queens Park once again stuck to their 4 - 5 - 1 formation and although they are part time amatuers, they are very well organised and make things difficult. Their midfield do an excellent job of supporting the attack and defence making it tough for opponents.
Airdrie manager Kenny Black stuck with our usual 4 - 4 - 2 formation but choose today to mess around with the defence and midfield.
S Robertson
S Campbell (Prunty 70), B Donnelly, M Smyth, P Lovering
D Smith, S McKenna, K McDonald, R Waddell
S Noble(Gillies 85), A Russell (Watt 85).
The first half of the match was frustrating, Queens Parks tactics worked as we battled to break down their nine man defence. Half an hour in to the match Russell passed across the face of the goal, Noble should have scored but it looked like the ball hit a divet and Noble swung at fresh air.
The second half began in the same fashion but Airdrie slowly started to dominate. Russell missed a golden opportunity a shot spinning wide of the near post.
Finally the dead lock was broken, Stuart Noble made a run to the sideline and his cut back found Russell, his shot needed a deflection to beat the keeper but still it was 1 - 0 Airdrie.
The match winning goal came from a Waddell cross the Allan Russell headed in to the back of the net.
Todays result helped us claw two points back on Ross County as they could only draw 1 - 1 against Peterhead.
