Watch out, the torn faces are reappearing again.

If anyone has taken the time to read Alex Ferguson's biography he takes time to mention the infamous Airdrie support. It's our passion for our team that probably drives some people to moan so vociferously that the best manager in British football history has to credit us for the intimidation factor. It's probably that same passion that made someone have the testicles to give us a team when we had nowhere else to turn. But this isn't Airdrieonians FC. This is Airdrie United, a team that's merely ten weeks old. Sure the league results have been at best up and down but are we really expecting instant miracles?

When we look at what's gone before us, we had no team for a full two months this summer. Jim, Walter and their families went to considerable expense to make sure we had a team. They worked out a sensible budget with Sandy to make sure we had a team that was capable of holding it's own in what they warned would be a year of consolidation, and like it or lump it, we've got just that. We've got a team made up of part timers consisting a few decent pros, a few journeymen, a few 'veterans', and a bunch of kids.

I'm not knocking the people wanting to have a go at this stage. We've all paid good money and deserve a decent effort. In that respect I believe we're getting that. Sandy has even pushed Jim to sign him the striker he craved last week and I'm sure the Frenchman didn't come within the sensible budget. Don't forget too the excellent sponorship deal with Pertemps. When anyone is having a go I'd seriously ask them to put things in perspective before letting rip. Jim has provided us with a stable looking club. Sandy is a novice manager and will make mistakes and learn from them and already he has shown signs of brilliance in that field by masterminding last weeks result. We should stick by him through thick and thin. Bear in mind that Calderon at Kirkcaldy has a full time team with full time wages to help his cause. Different teams, different ends of the spectrum. Can we even compare him to McCall? Don't think so. McCall had a few five and six nil thumpings in his first couple of months with a team of full timers!

Even the pelters old Brannigan is taking is a bit much for me. I'm sure he's only too aware of how slow he is, but he's done a not too bad job considering. He went from being a hero on Tuesday to a dumpling on Saturday. Over critical? Maybe just a tad. Besides, till we can afford a replacement who do we have as cover? Young Wilson? Paul Ronald playing out of position?

There had been a few suggestions about getting help for Sandy in terms of maybe hiring a mentor. I'm not too sure that would be good for anyone. For starters if there is money to spare it should go on players. Does Sandy need a mentor, or would a spell on the touchlines to organise things be more appropriate? Are we being too concerned with his role? DEFINITELY.

I think there is just a sense of frustration creeping in that we're in a lowly league position but I'm sure that given our position and the surpringly decent bunch of players we have we won't be down for long. Victory in the CIS against Dundee Utd would be another major hurdle cleared financially, and could signal the possiblity of some good players coming in during the winter transfer window. Who'd like to see players like Taylor and Roberts for example? And getting Gow on a longer contract? I'm sure with a bit of backing we can inspire our manager, chairman and players on to greater heights than this cr@p league!!!!!!!!!!!
