AS Airdrie bowed out of the TMT at the first hurdle. Five enforced changes from the last outing saw Smith(suspended)K.Pardoe,Capaldi,Clark(Work) & Shaw(injured) replaced by R.Graham,Edgar,M.Brown,Gray & Brady.
Not many clear cut chances in this game played on a cow field, in fact cows would be insulted!!, but both sides got on with it and put a hard shift in a goaless first half would lead you to think more of the same was coming as neither side looked like troubling the respective keepers, However just after the break Airdrieonians were awarded a soft spot kick when Rowan closed down the player who took a tumble. Rowan redeemed himself with a smart stop low to his left, This should have spurred the home team on but again no clear cut chances were fashioned. Rowan was again involved in the next big call as he rashly chased the forward who was going away from goal a tumble later and penalty number two was given. This time a change of taker hammered the ball past Rowan for a 1-0 lead. AS Airdrie lost Scott shortly after to a groin injury, Burton slotting into the back three, The home side got back in the game after good midfield work released Gray down the right his cross was headed home by Brady from 5 yards. Airdrieonians had a couple of breaks that came to nothing and Gray had one final chance as he broke clear and flashed his cross-cum-shot across the face with Brady unable to get to the loose ball. Full time 1-1 and straight to spot kicks.
AS won the toss and Edgar stepped up first but hit his pen pretty straight and the keeper saved,Lindsay slotted home the second before Burton also saw his kick saved, Airdrieonians converted all three of there kicks, Neil Pardoe kept the game going by scoring the fourth while Rowan made a fine stop to give Gray the chance to level things up, he duly put the ball in the top corner however Airdrieonians had the chance to win it with there final kick and they did, only just, as a poor shot was touched onto the post by Rowan and the ball trickled back across the line off the other post and rolled just inside the line. To give the tie to the away team.
Back to league business now for AS Airdrie and ten games left now to leave a mark on the season.
