Clydebank Thistle 1-1 AS Airdrie

Division One

A well contested game saw both sides share the points at Peterson park.

The manager made 1 change from last week with Morrison in for Capaldi who was working.

The first half saw Airdrie play some good football in the first 30 minutes and create a couple of good chances with Lindsay in particular having a fine game. It should have been 1-0 after 15 minutes when Kenny was fouled inside the box. However he scuffed the kick against the post and the ball was cleared. However 10 minutes later Airdrie took the lead with a fine goal. Cooper found Gray with a fine pass, good control and pass found Lindsay down the left and his cross-found Kenny at the back post to fire home. Airdrie were dominating but thistle worked themselves into the game and equalized after 35. A free kick from the right found the number 10 all alone in the box and he powered a header into the top corner.

A change saw Scott on for Lindsay who had to leave due to other commitments.

The second half saw a more even game with both sides missing a couple of good chances. Thistle should have made it 2-1 when R.Graham was adjudged to have committed a foul inside the box but Rowan again pulled off a fine save from the penalty. Airdrie had a lot of the ball but created few opportunities as they missed the absent Lindsay who was supporting the front 2 in the first half. Morrison fired over from a corner then Edgar headed wide. For thistle the number 11 was clear but duffed his shot straight at Rowan. Kenny then produced Airdrie’s best chance with a good turn and shot but the keeper pulled of a good save and Parry just failed with the rebound.


A good first half from Airdrie should have had them leading at the break that their play deserved but in the second half credit to clydebank who changed their system and had as much as the play as Airdrie. It’s always a decent game with thistle and never any problems and its good that they will be back next year. For Airdrie it was good to see Andy looking like his old self and no problems with his ankles as he put in a good shift. Lindsay had an excellent first half and was missed as it left Airdrie with 2 defensive centre mids and the support to the front 2 wasn’t as good and Rowan had another steady game and another penalty save (Johnny martin 2)
