Tynecastle 4-0 AS Airdrie

Airdrie’s 4 game unbeaten run came to a crashing end as they fell to one of their worst league defeats in their 6 years against a fine Tynecastle side who are challenging for the league title.

Holidays and work saw neily make 4 changes with rowan’s graham, cooper and Morrison replaced by burton, scott, shaw and Capaldi

for the first 10 minutes Airdrie were the better side and Shaw tested the keeper after a good run which took him by 3 players. For Tynecastle Paterson was looking lively ably supported by 11 and 14.the home team took the lead after 25 when Burton got turned inside the box, the shot hit the post and the rebound was hammered in by Stevenson. Airdrie were on the back foot till half time but just as they looked like going in only 1 down a poor pass from Pardoe was intercepted by the number 11 whose quick ball released the number 14,who was onside, and he slotted the ball by r graham in the Airdrie goal.  

No changes but Airdrie started out looking for an early goal to get back in the game and had a bit of play in the home sides half with little in the way of chances. However after 60 minutes it was 3-0.paterson got released down the left but from a tight space he brushed by a weak challenge from Pardoe, a lucky nutmeg through Scott then a good finish from a tight angle. For 10 minutes after this the home team could have had 2 or 3 more as they cut Airdrie open with their quick counter attacks. They did score a 4th after 70 with the goal of the game as a fine passing move found Paterson inside the box and he scored his second of the game. Both sides made changes with Leishman, Brady and Slavin on for Airdrie. The last 15 saw Airdrie with a couple of chances through Shaw who cut by 2 men and curled an effort just over, then Lindsay with a free kick that was held by the keeper.

First of all credit to Tynecastle for their display. We have played them about 10 times since we started 6 years ago and that was the best I have saw them play. Their midfield and strikers movement was first class and a defence that seems to be the same every time we play them do a solid job. Bernie has a good side who will be there or thereabouts for the title.

For Airdrie no excuses well beaten on the day, which doesn’t happen to often, the most disappointing aspect was, despite the home sides good play, was the poor goals that we gave away. Yes we had a make shift defence but the first 3 goals were down to not doing the basics properly. The effort was there for the best part but being on the back foot and chasing the game meant our creative players had little to go on and thus chances were few and far between. The remaining games will prove a big test for Airdrie and will show the character of every individual and how much of an effort they are willing to put in with no title or cup aspirations to play for.
