Last Match On The Grass

Lead Your team Out

May 20 2010

Excelsior Stadium are delighted to announce that works will be commencing on Monday 24th May to lay a Fifa Grade 2 star 3rd generation football pitch on the main pitch.  From the start of season 2010/11  all games played at the stadium will be played on the new state of the art surface.

Greenfields Sports Turf Systems who carried out the works to the new 5 aside facilities and have received Fifa 2 star certificates for the installation of synthetic turf-systems on almost every continent have been appointed to carryout the work.

The new pitch will allow far greater use and limit the amount of postponements that the existing pitch is susceptible too.

Prior to the pitch being ripped up the stadium company will host 1 last game on Sunday evening. All profits raised from this game will be used towards funds for Airdrie United youth teams next season.  Official kit for both teams will be used and some former players will be joining in to help make the evening memorable for those taking part.  Team pictures will be taken as a memento and at the final whistle all participants will be allowed onto the pitch to take a section of the pitch home should they wish.

For more information on how to book a place in the last game and costs contact Liam Brindle on 07950 962890 or email lb@excelsiorstadium.co.uk This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or Scott Hetherington at the stadium on 01236 622000.

6pm kick off, spectators welcome - no admission fee rather a donation to youth team funds.

All money raised will go to the Youth Teams directly associated to the club and also those from U6 - U14 who are affiliated to the club.

Confirmed Players

Stephen Docherty

Brian McPhee

Bryan Prunty

Paul Ronald

This doesn't appear to be a team about to fold!

I don't think it will either, but what has the above got to do with the team?

I'd assume it's because money is being collected for the youth teams, which would suggest that there would be a senior team!

Not necessarily. Only the 17's and 19's are part of the senior club. The youth below that is a much less formal arrangement, if any still exists, and it looks like this is a fundraiser for them. Good enough reason to do it but I don't think the club has any involvement.

I don't know if I am reading the article correctly, but it doesn't mention spectators. It also doesn't mention a kick off time.

In what way are the BC affiliated, does the senior club fund or support them in any way?

any boys team below the under 17's only use the diamond strip and the name Airdrie united. they get use of the stadium for tournaments, get into games free when ballboying etc.

this game on sunday appears to be being run by the stadium company and it looks like they are kindly donating any monies made to be divided up amongst the boys teams. I coach one of the teams and from a personal point of view totally appreciate this gesture. how easy would it have been to pocket all the money and have nothing else said about it.

I reckon the only player we could afford out of the guys (and girl) who played would be Ceefax. He would certainly fit it with KB's ethos - sideways, backwards and no tackling! But well done to the man and everyone else who took part.
