Clydebank United 2-5 AS Airdrie
Goals from Gray (2) Brady, Adams & Smith gave Airdrie a deserved 5-2 away win over Clydebank United in our first league game of the season. With ten players missing Airdrie travelled with twelve men, so 3 changes saw McCall, N.Pardoe and S.Graham replaced by Capaldi, Brady and Burton.
A quiet start to the game but the first attacking play by Airdrie saw them take a 1-0 lead. Good play by Capaldi down the right saw his cutback passed into the net by Brady from 18 yards. Gray could have made it two but the keeper saved. The home team drew level when Rodden sidestepped his marker and hammered home from 25 yards. Airdrie retook the lead when Ross Graham’s ball found Brady down the left and his cross was met by Gray who made no mistake from 6 yards. Gray could have had a penalty but the referee waved play on then the frontman missed his second one on one with the keeper. Apart from the Goal Rowan had little to deal with as the half finished 2-1.
2nd half saw an early change with Lindsay off and the only sub N.Pardoe the replacement. 15 minutes in and this time Gray took his chance, Ross Graham played a great 40 yard ball that cleared the defender, Gray’s first touch was superb his turn equally as good and the finish into the top corner was outstanding. Good play by Airdrie saw Adams with a chance to finish the game but was denied by the home keeper. Clydebank then forced Rowan into a top save with an effort from the edge of the box. The corner however wasn’t dealt with and the home player hooked the ball home from 10 yards. A test for Airdrie’s character but Smith put the game to bed with 12 minutes to go when he rifled an effort into the top corner from 25 yards. Airdrie made it 5-2 when good play by Brady down the left saw his cross finished by Adams who got what he deserved after a fine display Final score 5-2
With so many missing a decent performance and result with a few good individual performances, However the front two played really well with there displays and Adams got a deserved man of the match award after causing the home defence all sorts of problems with hi space, power and energy.
