Airdrie United Supporters Society Announcement

By Chris Mac
July 24 2003

As many users of the internet will notice, there is a push on at the moment concerning the Airdrie United Supporters Society membership, which sits at over 200, but we really want to increase this by a long margin and include all sections of the support, not just those who have use of the internet

So how do we do this? Initially, we have to get together and give everyone an understanding what the trust is all about. If you have access to the net a visit to the Supporters Direct website, the address for this is at the bottom of the page, will give you a good indication of how the Trust works. From an Airdrie stand point, we have organised a few fun events to help get everyone together.

Why do Airdrie United supporters need a trust?  At the present time with everything secure and with the Ballantyne and Spiers families comfortably at the helm, now seems the wrong time to be setting this up. Well in reply to this when do we start it ?   When and if things go wrong again?

Well, I'm sorry but wouldn't  being in a pro-active situation rather than reactive one help us more  By the time most fans are in a position to react it is far too late.

We already have a fans’ representative on the Airdrie United board and, in return for our financial input, we are to receive a 5% shareholding in the club.

There were several avenues available to us for transfer of the shares, however having looked at all of them, it was decided that forming the Trust was the safest and most sensible.

For more details contact Veronica MacGregor at the P.O. box address below or by e-mail at aufcfansrep@hotmail.com

The Trust  is also making inroads into linking ourselves with local community projects and charities, these will be announced in due time and, again, any suggestions regarding this will be very much appreciated. We will also guarantee that only local companies and groups benefit from  the Trust’s existence, making this an all round community project.

Airdrie United Supporters Society Launch day

The second and main event is the official Trust launch. The Tudor hotel has been booked for this, and it will be held on Sunday the 3rd of August between 12:00p.m. and 3:00p.m , the day after the Montrose Challenge cup match.

In attendance will be Jim Ballantyne and members of the board and a complement of players. This will be an opportunity to talk to the Directors and Playing Staff, and to see the official hand over of the share certificate to the Trust.

A buffet lunch will be supplied and the bar facility open.

This event is again being run by Airdrie United Supporters Society and is open to all Airdrie Supporters and non-Airdrie supporters. Trust forms will again be available on the day.

Finally, we want to set up a mailing list for all those who would like kept up to date with Trust information by either E-mail or by post, if you are reading this on line please send your e-mail address to aufctrust@aol.com with your Name and Address and whether you would prefer to receive this by e-mail or post.  Anyone who doesn’t have access to the Internet or e-mail, will be contacted in the near future.
