Airdrie United fans team holds awards night

In Springwells bowling club clarkston on Saturday 5th of June. Airdrie United Fans Rep veronica McGregor was in attendace to present the awards........

After a fairly succesful first season in the Strathclyde saturday morning league where the team finished a creditable 6th the Player of the year, young Player of the Year and Players Player of the year awards were presented to the respective winners.

The Player of the year award was desrvedly won By Ally gray, Finishing top goalscorer and causing problems to the opposition defences ally has played consistantly well throughout the campaign, Highlight for me was his spectacular goal against Germiston Star back in late november.

The Young player of the year was closely fought between the 5 18 year olds that have become regular players for the allstars in what is there first taste at amateur football, all five held there own against our older opponents and indeed suprised there managers with there ability.Stuart Smith can count himself unlucky not to win this award after joining at christmas he was a candidate for Player of the year, however it was Neil Pardoe who scooped this award for his consistant displays and chipping in with his fair share of goals from wingback ( mostly spectacular) the pick of the Bunch coming against Clydebank Thistle where he collected the ball from yours truly and curled a shot into the top right of the net.

Neil is over the moon as he receives his award.

His acceptance speech was right up there with wullie McClarens.

The players player award is in my opinion the best to win as it your team mates who are giving you the accolade, from all the votes only 4 players were chosen which shows how tight and how deserving this award was, Yet again Stuart Smith came Close finishing Runner up to a dumbstruck Neil Pardoe who collected his second award of the evening and completed an outstanding season for himself, Hopefully neil and the rest of the Team can carry on this form into the New season and push for promotion to the first division.
