Airdrie Vs. Ross County in the Bells First divisio fixture for 18 september 2004

Preview For Saturday, 18th August 2004

Airdrie

V

Ross County

 Sandy Stewart

Alex Smith

Sandy Stewart has Stephen Docherty and Neil McGowan back in the squad but after last weeks fine performance should we be changing it?

We also have a player rated 50/50 and although Sandy is trying to keep it quiet I would take an unconfirmed guess that it will be Alan Gow. We know Willie McLaren is match fit but whether permission has been given by his doctor to return to games we won't know until tomorrow.

Were sitting on 7 points the same as our opponents Ross County and we need the confidence of a few wins to get our season on track, at the moment we are still in contact with the league leaders and we really have to make every effort to maintain this. Last week was a revelation when we switched to playing a 4-3-3 formation will this be a tactic only used during away matches or can we look forward to seeing it tomorrow.

We also have Mark Robert out after his sending off against Clyde, the less said about that the better.

 Opponents News

Ross County manager Alex Smith made some good closed season signings and a lot of people were taking them as an outside bet to challenge for the title this season but as yet they have not managed to knit together and perform as expected.

Ross County had a hard mid-week game against Partick thistle in the Bells Challenge Cup finally winning in extra time, but it has left them with a few doubts for our match. Stuart Malcolm, John Robertson and Sean Kilgannon are all doubts with various injuries but the return of Gary McSwegan to the team will be a timely boost for the Highland team.

Steve Conroy does anyone remember him?
We never saw Mr Conroy for the full of season 2003/2004 but for those who were in Stranraer on that fate full last day of the season 2002/2003 he was in charge as we beat Stranraer but still had to suffer being stuck in the Bells 2nd Division for another season.

 Prediction

As you can see from our previous incarnations fixtures honours are even between the Diamonds and Ross County I hope it's us that can change that and I will be taking a 1-0 win for Airdrie.
