Nottingham Forest's youngsters earned themselves a 2-0 win last night against the American University of Richmond, in a behind-closed-doors friendly. This was a good opportunity for the junior members of Kinnear's squad to get a decent run out ahead of the new season.

In what was purely a training game in which results didn't count- The Reds beat The University of Richmond 2-0 on their own turf under the blazing hot American sun.

Joe Kinnear seemed to use the game as an opportunity to give some of his young-guns a run out against a team that was made up of players who were largely the same age as themselves.

On the whole, what was basically our reserve side with a few unfit first-team squad players in, can be pleased with the way they performed and getting out onto the pitch with no pressure from fans won't have done such a young group any harm, either.

Manager Joe Kinnear said: "Like all the games over here, it was not about the result but I was pleased to give some of the younger lads a run out.

"I was pretty happy with the way they performed."

Nott'm Forest: Roche, Biggins, Doig, Perch, Robertson, Cash, Beaumont (Walker, 70), Gardner, Commons (Evans, 45), Westcarr, Bopp.

The Forest senior team will take on Virginia Beach Mariners tomorrow.
