Birmingham City are on the verge of sealing a deal which will see Ben Foster move to the Midlands. The English goalkeeper has failed to fulfil his potential at Old Trafford and will now try and lease new life into his flagging career with a £4million switch to St.Andrews.
Foster has fallen behind Edwin van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak in United's pecking order and failed to make Fabio Capello’s initial 30-man squad ahead of the summer’s World Cup in South Africa.
A string of injuries and questionable performance mean Foster has never fulfilled his potential at United – and a move away from Old Trafford has been predicted by many of the club’s supporters in recent weeks.
With Joe Hart set to return to Manchester City, Foster is expected to take the number one jersey at Birmingham next season.
Foster started the season ahead of VDS in United's pecking order and wore the England jersey in November against Brazil. However, poor performances followed and the ‘keeper is severely lacking in confidence.
He leaves with our best wishes for the future. Sir Alex Ferguson must now decide whether to sign another new ‘keeper with VDS approaching the final year of a star-studded career.
Macclesfield-born youngster Ben Amos and German Ron-Robert Zieler will both be hoping that Foster’s exit will hand them a chance to impress.
