Evra backs new United goalkeeper

French defender Patrice Evra has given his full backing to United goalkeeper David De Gea. The Spaniard has had a disappointing start to life with the club following errors in the Community Shield against Manchester City and a howler against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

The pressure has been mounting on summer signing De Gea following mistakes against Manchester City and a woeful error against West Brom.

Sir Alex Ferguson splashed the cash on the Spaniard over the summer but some supporters have already suggested that he should be dropped for the less high-profile Anders Lindegaard or Tomasz Kuszczak.

Evra had a difficult stat to life at United too, before establishing himself in the first-team XI. He has backed De Gea to be a success at the club.

He said: "I had the same thing when I joined Man Utd. This is the way, when you play for Manchester United to accept criticism.

He added: "I'm sure, I'm confident, everyone is behind him, he's a very talented player and I know he is going to make it."
