Ankle injury could halt transfer of midfielder

Darron Gibson’s expected summer exit from Old Trafford has been thrown into doubt after the player picked up an ankle injury. The midfielder has been linked with a £3.5million switch to Aston Villa, but the midfielder has damaged his ankle ligaments in United training.
Despite making 20 first-team appearances for United last season, most commentators felt the midfielder would not feature prominently this campaign.
Anxious to maximise his first-team opportunities, Gibson is reportedly eager to leave Old Trafford and has recently been linked with Blackburn as well as Villa.
Recently, a move to Sunderland collapsed – prompting rumours that a £3.5million move was coming from the Midlands or Ewood Park.
However, any proposed move may be cancelled due to an ankle ligaments injury sustained by Gibson during training.
The seriousness of the injury is yet to be determined, but Gibson could spend up to a month on the sidelines.
Capped 16 times by the Republic of Ireland, his unrest at United has reportedly intensified after being left out of United’s recent pre-season tour of the USA and playing no part in the Community Shield or United’s opening league fixtures.
