Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder has revealed that he came very close to making a summer switch to Old Trafford. The midfielder, however, remains at Inter Milan with the transfer window now slammed shut.

United were linked with Snejider over the summer months, as were rivals City and Chelsea.

Speculation continued to link the player with a move to the Premier League up until deadline day, but he seems pleased to have remained with Serie A giants Inter.

"I felt that a move was close", said the 27-year-old.

"There were talks on several occasions. Inter had to sell a player - Eto'o or me.

"They (United) are one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it wasn't a bad option. But at the same time I didn't want to leave Inter".

The Red Devils were the only club not to partake in any transfer dealings on deadline day.
