Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is enjoying wearing the number six jersey this season. The Northern Irish centre-half swapped his number 23 jersey following Wesley Brown's departure over the summer months.
Evans is following in the foot steps of the likes of Gary Pallister and Jaap Stam as he sports squad number six this season.
The 23-year-old says that he feels the shirt number move suggests that Sir Alex Ferguson has "confidence" in his defensive abilities.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "I got a phone-call one day and they said the manager wanted to know if I wanted the number six shirt.
"I said: 'Why not?' It's more of a defender's number than my old number, 23, and looks a bit nicer. Tom Cleverley's got 23 now and I'm sure he'll take good care of it".
Belfast-born Evans, who has spent two loan spells at Sunderland during his short career, has featured in all three of United's league games so far this season.
