Update after Anfield

The Liverpool game so often fails to live up to all the hype, and the latest fixture was no exception. The result a 1-1 draw was acceptable but as one of  the biggest club games in the world - the match was not a spectacle to set the pulses racing. Sir Alex's team selection raised a few eyebrows but the end result was ok as we look towards Europe and the Manchester derby in the coming days.

Over the next eight days United will play away at Galati, then entertain Manchester city before travelling to Aldershot in the Carling Cup. Three contrasting fixtures which make this game so diverse and interesting. 

The excellent news concerning the long term future of the manager can be summarised in his own words...

"I just don't think about retirement any more," said Ferguson speaking after being awarded an honorary Doctorate at Manchester University. 

"We've got a good young team and a lot of youth at the club as well as some tremendous staff. The future is good."

Ferguson added: "When you've been on the treadmill for so long, 25 years in my case, and my health is good at the moment, it's just a matter of looking forward to being the manager of Manchester United, rather than worrying about Alex Ferguson.

"The great part for me is still to be out on the field with the players and coaching them. As the game has changed, I have had to change with it. For example, sports science in the last decade has seen a phenomenal improvement and that has become a major development in the game."
