Evra: Champions League exit inspired team to perform

Red Devils left-back Patrice Evra says United’s Champions League exit has inspired the team’s superb run of form in the Premier League. Since being dumped out of Europe in Switzerland, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have won four out of four league games; scoring 14 goals and conceding just one.

Since suffering a 2-1 loss at Basel, United have claimed wins over Wolves, QPR, Fulham and Wigan Athletic.

United’s resurgent league form has seen them pull level on points at the top of the league table with fierce rivals City, ensuring 2011 ends on a high for Sir Alex.

"It was a big disappointment when we went out early in the Champions League," said the French international.

"But I think it was a wake-up call, because maybe everyone looked at themselves in the mirror and said 'we can do much better'."

Evra has made 268 United appearances since joining the club in January 2006, and the full-back seems to be loving life at Old Trafford.

He added: "In six years playing here - no team has got that Manchester United spirit. This is United. This is why I'm so proud to play here."
