Rooney Lands Violent Conduct Charge

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has landed himself with a potential 3-match ban and a 'violent conduct' charge after shoving Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim in the face during The Red Devil's Boxing Day victory over Wanderers.

Israeli Ben Haim has also been given punishment, receiving an 'improper conduct' charge for over-reacting to Rooney's push. Both are likely to be hit with match-bans if they reject to appeal by Thursday evening.

If a ban were to take place, United would be short on attacking cover following injuries to Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha. Duo David Bellion and Alan Smith would be the only senior front-men available for clashes with Middlesbrough, Tottenham and Exeter.

The FA released a statement saying: "Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for violent conduct,"

"In addition, Bolton Wanderers defender Tal Ben Haim has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for improper conduct."

"The charges relate to an incident involving the two players during the match at Old Trafford on Sunday 26 December."
