Giggs Suffers Hamstring Injury

Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has been ruled out of action for at least one month after taking a nasty knock to his hamstring whilst playing in United's 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday. The game was marred by the controversial decision to ignore Pedro Mendes' 40-yard strike, that clearly pass the goal-line.

Welshman Giggs was substituted late in the first half by Frenchman David Bellion, who had a quiet game as a replacement.

The 31-year old has had a tough time off the field over recent weeks, in complete contrast to his form on the field. Giggs netted 3 goals in a many games prior to the Tottenham fixture.

"It is not a short-term thing," Ferguson revealed.

"It's a hamstring injury, and losing him so early on killed us." he added.

Regarding the title chase with Arsenal and Chelsea, Ferguson commented: "It looks like it is theirs (leaders Chelsea) to throw away now,"

""Eleven points is obviously greater than nine but we know it can be pulled back. We were 12 points in front of Arsenal a few years ago and didn't win the title because we picked up a few injuries."
