NEWCASTLE United chairman Freddy Shepherd has blatantly dismissed rumours that the club have agreed a £4.5 million deal with Tottenham for defender Stephen Carr.
Reports have been flying around saying that the Magpies were due to commence talks with the Republic of Ireland defender but Shepherd branded the rumours as "absolute nonsense".
"I sign the cheques at Newcastle," said Shepherd, "and can categorically there is no deal for Carr. It's absolute nonsense.
"Spurs have not contacted me about Carr and I have had no conversations with the. The deal is total fantasy."
