SEASON TICKET HOLDER DIES IN TRAIN TRAGEDY

Mr Matthews was travelling back from Reading's 1-0 victory over Stoke City when a car was left on the train track which the 17:35 train from Paddington hit and derailed at Ufton Nervet. Mr Matthews was 1 of 7 people who died in the disaster.

Reading Football Club Chairman John Madejski said;

"We all at Reading Football Club would like to offer our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by the rail disaster and I would especially like to express my heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Mr Matthews. He was a loyal supporter for many years, and his sudden death is a great tragedy."

Mr Matthews was a season ticket holder in the West Lower Stand and had been so for more than 50 years.

A minute's silence will be held on Saturday as Cardiff City visit the Madejski Stadium.
