Coppell still keeping tabs on Zamora

Coppell is a well known admirer of Zamora since the pair worked together at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Zamora is now a West Ham United player and has been at Upton Park for a year now after making a £1.5million from neighbours Spurs.

He has struggled to make any kind of impact for the former Reading boss Alan Pardew, and it's thought Pardew is prepared to cut his losses on Zamora and offload him and use the money to strengthen his own sides promotion bid.

Zamora achieved a phenomenal goal scoring record at Brighton in the old Division 3,old Division 2 as Brighton won back to back promotions. He even proved his worth in the old Division 1,despite Brighton getting relegated.

But he proved a major flop at Spurs under Glenn Hoddle and David Pleat and despite being the bate in the Jermaine Defoe transfer move to Spurs, the player has been a major disappointment with his boyhood club.

However, the Royals would have to pay in the region of £650,000 but they could face stiff competition from Tony Pullis Stoke City. Another club linked was Norwich City, but any move looks unlikely following the signing of Dean Ashton which has set them back a potential £3.5million.

Royals Manager Coppell told the Reading Evening Post;

"Do I like Bobby Zamora? Yes I do, but nothing is happening.

"I said to Pards in the past 'if he is not in the equation there then keep me informed', but I've not made any formal enquires."

Staying with potential targets, Chief Executive Nigel Howe has once again stated there is money available if required. The Royals could do with a another defender but getting one that is better than Ivar Ingimarsson and Ibu Sonko could be the stumbling block.
