Federici signs for the Royals

Federici had been on trial with the Royals for a month after unsuccessful trials at Wolves and Leeds.

And with the Royals signing another goalkeeper, it's hoped that the highly rated Jamie Young will go out on-loan and gain valuable first team experience.

Young is highly regarded at Reading and any kind of first team football would be seen as a step in the right direction.

It was this time last year Jamie Ashdown went to Rushden & Diamonds on loan and after an injury to Marcus Hahnemann, he came back to Reading and proved himself as a great goalkeeper in the final third of the season.

Ashdown now plays for Premiership side Portsmouth where he has proved good competition for a true Royals goalkeeping legend, Shaka Hislop.

Director of Football Nick Hammond said on Federici;

"It has taken time to get international clearance to allow him to stay here and register with us. This way we can take a closer look at him from now until the end of the season.

"He has come over and has trained hard and done very well in the time that he's been here. He will now be able to become involved in reserve team fixtures and that's the idea. We want him to start him playing games and it's useful to have a third goalkeeper at the Club as cover, especially as we come into this important last part of season."
