Transfer target Crow is "out of reach"

Lincoln City's hopes of signing young Danny Crow from Peterborough United have taken a blow after John Deehan revealed the price-tag is going to break City's budget. Although the asking price is not known, it is believed to run into a 6 figure sum, a figure that would break the Imps' transfer record but also a figure that makes me highly unlikely that the Imps will sign him.

Crow was one of several players who came out of the Ron Atkinson ego trip (a/k/a Big Ron Manager) with a bad reputation for being a complainer and a crybaby. This has apparantly put a lot of clubs off making a bid for Crow after he was put on the transfer list at London Road a few weeks ago with former Imp, Richard Butcher.

Ferguson's patience has run out with Crow as the young striker has score just one league goal since the beginning of December, this despite being a near ever-present for the Posh in that time. His last game came just over a month ago when Peterborough only drew at Torquay United.

Imps' Director of Football, John Deehan, revealed to the Echo that although he would love to sign Crow, Peterborough's asking price is believed to run into the 6 figure sums that put a lot of clubs off signing a striker who only barely averages a goal every 4 games.

"He scored a few goals this season and having worked with him before he has a lot of good attributes. Of course if he was available he would certainly interest me. But the sort of money Peterborough are asking for him would probably be too much for us."

That has come as a big blow for Deehan's hopes of landing the youngster, but he is determined to make sure that City don't bring in average players in the summer, something the club have been guilty of in most of the recent summers.

One target is believed to be Robert Olejnik, the goalkeeper who was on loan with the Imps has been released by Aston Villa and he has stated he would love to return to Sincil Bank....but only if he was guaranteed first team football.

Other names being linked with the Imps in recent weeks are Northampton's Pedj Bojic, Nottingham Forest's Spencer Weir-Daley, Peterborough United's Ben Futcher and more recently, Jack Lester who has just been released by the aforementioned Forest. Those are just a small handful of names being linked with City, the majority of which seem like very exciting prospects.
