Ex-Imps are on the move to pastures new

Two people formally associated with the Imps have been on the move on Tuesday, one of whom has joined Keith Alexander's quest to turn every League 2 side into new version of Lincoln. The other is former Lincoln City goalscoring machine, Lee Thorpe, who now joins Terry Butcher's Brentford to form a partnership with a regular scorer against the Imps, Alan Connell.

Gary Simpson initially joined the Imp as assistant manager during the 2002/3 season, taking over as caretaker manager when Alexander had his medical problems back in the middle of the 2003/4 season. Simpson left the Imps at the beginning of 2006 when there was a major reshuffle at Sincil Bank following the infamous "Garden Leave" incident.

When Alexander left City in the summer of 2006 and joined Peterborough, it was little surprise that Simpson quickly turned up at London Road (along with umpteen former Imps). He now joins Keith at Bury in a coaching capacity to help manager Chris Casper.

He becomes the 4th ex-Lincoln person to join Bury this summer, following on from Keith Alexander, Paul Morgan and Ben Futcher. It is also expected that they will sign two other ex-Imps within the next few days, one believed to be Chris Day.

In other news, Lee Thorpe has joined Brentford. Thorpe was City's leading goalscorer for 5 seasons running and he scored the goal that won us promotion back in 1998. Since leaving us in 2001 he has played for Leyton Orient, Bristol Rovers, Grimsby, Swansea and lastly Torquay United.
