Board says that automatic promotion is the aim

Speaking to one of the board members at last night's 3-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion in the Reserves League Cup, we can reveal that the board still believe automatic promotion is realistic. Although, the board member gave a slight hint that the club would be less than enthusiastic about the possibility of Martin Allen coming to Sincil Bank as the new manager.

The board member, who I will not name for confidentially reasons, declared that not only does he and the rest of the board expect the Imps to get out of the current slump, but be in the Top 7 come Christmas and be challenging for automatic promotion sooner rather than later.

He said that with the squad that club have at their disposal that relegation isn't even being considered in the board room and that we will pull away from this dog-fight within the next few weeks.

When asked about the new manager, the board member revealed that the club were expecting a similar number of applications compared to the last time that the manager's job was available. This would mean about 80 applicants with names probably including Mike Newell, Peter Jackson and possibly Martin Allen.

However, the board member was less than enthusastic about Martin Allen, citing to the large debts that Allen has left many clubs in after managing them. He also revealed that former Mansfield manager, Keith Curle, has already applied for the position.

With the majority of applications expected within the next 24 hours, it is certainly going to be an interesting few weeks ahead for the Imps.
