City appoint McDonald as assistant

Lincoln City have appointed Neil McDonald to be the new assistant manager at Sincil Bank, the former Carlisle United being the first person to hold that position in nearly 2 years. McDonald was surprisingly sacked as Carlisle boss but one game into this season, even more a surprise given that he guided them to a very respectable finish in League One last season.

The last person to officially hold the position of assistant manager was Gary Simpson, he was sacked back on January 4th 2006. The appointment of McDonald to accompany Jackson shows tremendous ambition from the board, as both know what it takes to succeed in League 1.

McDonald's record at Carlisle was very respectable, winning 19 of his 51 games in charge, drawing a further 14. However, this wasn't enough for the Carlisle board as they thought they had gone as far as they could after the first game this season, a decent 1-1 draw at Walsall.

Jackson and McDonald will team up for the first time in tomorrow's visit of Chesterfield.
