2008 : Another year to forget : April

April was a better month for the Imps with three wins from four games. The month also saw the final game in an Imps shirt for a mistake-prone goalkeeer, the debut of a statuesque one and a rare goal for an Imps defender, there was still a distinct lack of clean sheets though.

April started with yet another defeat, this time to high-flying MK Dons. It was the visitor's 16^th away win in a title winning season and the game was as good as over within 3 minutes when Regan slotted in. Jamel Johnson doubled the lead thanks to another Alan Marriott mistake before Ben Wright eventually pulled one back for City.

Towards the end of the season you're never going to get many news stories, although April 12^th saw the final game of Alan Marriott's Lincoln City career. The Imps were playing Chester and the goalkeeper conceded a penalty early on, only to saw Kevin Ellison's extremely weak spot kick. That was to prove to be Marriott's last contribution for the Imps, gaining an injury and being replaced by Ayden Duffy, making his first team debut. Duffy's first contribution was to pick the ball out of the net as Chester opened the scoring. However, the Imps were winning four minutes later and two quickfire goals from Jamie Forrester turned the game around. Dany N'Guessan was sent off for City late on but the Imps secured the three points and their League 2 safety.

Gary King and Martin Pembleton signed new contracts ahead of City's 3-1 win over Brentford. The Imps were surprisingly comfortable against a Brentford side who had been in fine form under Andy Scott. The lead came when Simon Brown horrendously fumbled a Gary King shot. Nathan Elder equalised by a characteristically statuesque Duffy, before goals from Forrester and Frecklington gave the Imps a fantastically deserved three points.

The final away game of the season came at Morecambe and despite being second best for the VAST majority of the game, including the hosts missing two or three open goals before Ben Wright gave the Imps an undeserved lead before Paul Green scored his first of the season. The impressive Blinkhorn gaining a consolation for the hosts.

It was a good final few days of the season for Green as he picked up the "Player's Player" and "Official Website's Player" of the season awards.
