Elding joins rare scoring club

Anthony Elding has joined a rare scoring club for the Imps as he became just the 8th player this century to score on his debut for the Imps, following on from Adrian Patulea also achieving that accolade earlier on this season.

Elding's goal against Brentford means that he has followed on from some other strikers to score on their debut for the Imps. Many other strikers have scored in their second or third game, but only eight in total have scored on their debut.

The first player to achieve the feat did so against Kidderminster Harriers in August 2002 when Simon Weaver headed into the net in a 1-1 draw. It would be two and a half years until the next player to achieve it as Craig Westcarr started his loan from Nottingham Forest with a long range hammer.

Gary Birch's toe poke against Northampton Town on the opening day of the 2005/6 season was one of his goals in a prolific opening few months with the Imps. Later on in the same season and Martin Gritton achieved the same, this time in an away game at Stockport County. That season also saw a third, this time it was Jamie Forrester's thirty yard lob over Steve Mildenhall against Grimsby Town.

Then came arguably the most surprising name to appear on this list as it also turned out to be this player's only goal for the Imps. Adie Moses hit the ball into an empty net against Notts County at the beginning of the 2006/7 season.

That was to be the last until earlier this season when Patulea made his debut against Barnet, hitting in the second for the Imps and giving the Imps their first win of the season.
