Reaction to the Gillingham victory

Lincoln City recorded a rare and unexpected victory away at Gillingham on Tuesday night, but it wasn't all great as Elding yet again disappointed, many players we anonymous and Adrian was on the bench again. However, a win is a win and it's certainly an impressive one given Gillingham's position.

The one thing that I've noticed in recent weeks is that we are invariably rubbish in the first half of games, it's only after Jackson prosumably gives the players a rollocking that they start playing. Eventually that could easily get to the point where we're so far behind at half time that any amount of telling off will be able to alter it.

However, that's really as negative as this reaction gets as I can't complain one bit about beating a side that I see as one of the best in the division. Not many sides will get a double over Gillingham this season and I still expect them to be at the top area of the League come May. The fact that they never really looked like scoring with the expection of the stupidly conceded penalty (cheers for that Frank) says it all about how we approached the game.

We're now starting to put together a bit of form, granted it was only our third win in fifteen games, but we've only lost once in eight games, it's a pity that four of those have been draws as we would have no doubt been up there it if wasn't for that, however, we could have easily lost those six games, making the argument a bit irrelevant.

Then we get onto what has to be easily the goal of the season so far. I had previously been a bit critical of Horsfield as he hadn't really done a lot during his opening appearances for the clubs. That changed with a swing of his right foot as he showed exactly why he's proven such a hit at higher levels, let's just hope that he can keep it up, especially as Elding appears to have lost all interest already. He runs with his head down, hands of hips when the ball's not near him and never really appears ready to pounce on balls.

Overall, I'm still not convinced that we are good enough for promotion because let's remember that Gillingham are still the only team with us in the top half that we've beat. However, we've got a lot of winable games coming up, you never know, we could even be in the automatics this time in three weeks.
