Elding strikes again for City

Anthony Elding scored again to silence his critics even more as the Imps reacted well to Saturday's drubbing at Grimsby, although we're still miles from the Playoffs. The visitors were surprisingly poor given their lofty position in the table, with their strikers never really looking capable of scoring.

City started the match but it was Wycombe who had the game's first chance when Pittman got past Sinclair and played in Harrold, only to see his effort go wide. The visitor's continued to press as they won a corner a few minutes later, only to see City's defence clear under the ball into the box. Holt tested Burch with a volley from 25 yards as the visitors continued to dominate the early stages of the match and they should have pulled ahead even further when McCracken fired wide from six yards out.

City finally came into the game when Kerr found N'Guessan on the right, only for the Frenchman to shoot wide, although Elding did his best to prod the ball into the net. Sinclair denied Pittman a run on goal before N'Guessan flicked a header wide from Kerr's cross. Kovacs hit the top of the roof.

A few Wycombe corners were followed by Brown finding himself one-on-one with the Wycombe goalkeeper, only to see his effort slide well wide of the target. The best Wycombe chance of the half came from a free kick on the edge of the box, Holt smashing it straight into Burch's arms and that was the final realistic chance of the first half.

Beevers was booked early in the second half thanks to fouling Zebroski, Harrold was booked just seconds later as he kicked the ball away. City took the lead with a few minutes into the half when O'Connor played a ball to Brown and he crossed for Brown to play in Elding, the City man belting it in from 6 yards before doing a strange little dance in front of the CO-OP Stand.

Harrold hit the side netting straight from the restart before Moncur placed McCracken for the hosts. Beevers headed wide for City before Horsfield came on for an injured N'Guessan.

A slow second half was mainly full of fouls, yellow cards and free kicks. It took until the 83^rd minute for the next shot on goal, Matt Harrold fired just wide for the visitors but they never looked like equalising and with City not looking like scoring again, it finished 1-0 to the Imps.
