Neither City or County inspire in draw

Neither side managed to overly impress in a 1-1 draw between City and Notts County. The goals both came within a minute of each other and it's a true symbolisation of two teams who are heading nowhere fast. Delroy Facey opened the scoring but Sam Mullarkey equalised within 45 seconds.

The Imps were the first team on the attack when they won a free kick within seconds, Michael O'Connor's set piece going way, way over the cross bar. N'Guessan's quick effort was blocked by Clapham before Pilkington saved Kovacs' header from Brown's corner. It was a lively start from the Imps for a change. O'Connor's cross on eight minute was too close to Pilkington before the former City target pucnehd a corner away from Swaibu.

A rare County foray forward was easily claimed by Burch from a Hamshaw cross. Patulea's low drive was saved before the Imps wasted a fifth corner before the quarter hour mark, but that's about as dominant as the Imps got during the game as County started coming into it. Hamshaw fired well wide of the target, as did Weston. Hamshaw wasted another effort after assistance from Forrester.

John Thompson was denied a run on goal before the best attack of the first half came County's way. Jamie Forrester controlled the ball and attempted a bicycle kick. It was sailing into the net before Rob Burch produced one of the finest saves you'll ever see to deny him just seconds before the first half whistle.

City were again the first team at attack in the second half as Beevers headed wide, but it was a slow start to the half and Mullarkey replaced King after 54 minutes. N'Guessan's shot was deflected into the arms of Pilkington before Kerr chipped wide. However, it wasn't long before the deadlock was broken.

A long punt forward from County saw Swaibu and Burch get confused with to whom was dealing with the ball, only for Delroy Facey to round both and tap into the empty net, scoring against his former Huddersfield Town manager. However, the Imps drew level within 10 seconds of the restart. Kerr played in Mullarkey and the usually useless striker hit a decent effort in from 25 yards, bringing a mini pitch invasion.

City were now dominating again and could have had a penalty when Patulea fell under Clapham's foul. Wright was denied a free run on goal by the offside flag. The rest of the game on saw substitutions from both sides, but neither looked like scoring a winner and the game ended 1-1.
