Maybe.....just maybe

Tuesday night's win over Macclesfield Town has left City eight points off of the Playoffs with a game in hand. There are many things pointing to why the Imps won't claw their way into the Playoffs, but now it's not looking as impossible as it did before the win against the Silkmen.

City have seven games left, facing four teams above them in that time, meaning that City have a big say on who finishes where, and ultimately there could be a outside chance that a succession of wins could pull us into an unlikely Playoff trip. However, only one of the five teams above us come to Sincil Bank, Exeter City being the only visitors whilst City face trips to Chesterfield, Bradford City and Shrewsbury Town.

The other three games are far from easy as well. Accrington aren't as bad as they once were, Aldershot are inconsistent and Luton's defeat on Tuesday night means that they could, in theory (in other words, results go against them), mean that a win for City against Luton could relegate the Hatters.

If City beat Accrington then it makes City's trip to Chesterfield next Tuesday extremely important. A win, depending on other results, could leave City just two points from the Playoff places with the team currently in 7th still to play

In terms of the seven teams we face, we have unfortunately only beaten two of them so far this season, drawing 0-0 against two of the others and losing the rest. However, the teams that have to travel to Sincil Bank have generally bad away records, especially Aldershot with a whopping 14 defeats on the road so far.

So in theory we could still make the Playoffs, but realistically we're not going to. However, impossible is just a word. Anyone from 13th up can still have hopes of making the Playoffs due to games in hand, and looking at the fixture list, a lot of teams in the Playoff picture face each other soon, meaning a brilliant opportunity for one or more teams to catch up.

On the plus side we seem to do well ok.

Also saturdays results elsewhere helped us. I was thinking if only we could have beaten Counteh we would have been well placed

We are nowhere near good enough, Macc were an awful side yet we only beat them thanks to one decent move in the game!

We've seen seemingly average sides put a good string of results and make the play offs before. It just depends if we build on our results, which we have failed to do all season really.

Why has no-one yet asked the question...

if we did go up, how the hell would we manage in League One?

We are not Peterborough Utd. and (probably) never will be!

We lasted all of one season last time and i doubt this would alter if we achieved our dreams.

I fear we would be the whipping boys if we went up this season.

couldn't put it better myself! We'd come straight back down if we went up this year, we struggle for results in league 2 let alone league 1!

Red Army!
