Imps end season with defeat

Lincoln City ended their season with yet another defeat, ending the season with a run of no home wins on a Saturday in nearly 200 days. Ben Wright and Geoff Horsfield wasted numerous efforts before Aldershot hit two very different goals.

The game's first chance came with Robinson hitting a shot low at goal, only to see Rob Burch easily claim the ball. Chalmers volleyed over for the Imps before an N'Guessan cross almost found it's way to Ben Wright, only for the Aldershot defence to clear the ball. Jamiez-Ruiz denied Wright from close range before Donnelly shot over from distance in an action packed opening few minutes.

Geoff Horsfield's header was blocked on the line before Kerr shot over. Horsfield somehow found himself free on goal but could only direct his effort straight at the goalkeeper. Then, after 26 minutes of City looking reasonably comfortable, Aldershot scored. John Grant headed a Louie Soares cross straight into the net and the cries from the away end of "We're winning away, we're winning away, you must be rubbish because we're winning away" summed it up due to Aldershot's horrendous away record.

The visitors almost hit the ball into the net again, only a Burch effort keeping it out and that was the final action of the first half.

Horsfield was replaced with Mullarkey at half time and the introduction of the worthless striker didn't really change anything. N'Guessan did get past five players before hitting the ball wide in what was his final effort for the Imps.

The second half was extremely slow and the next noteworthy note came in the 70^th minute when Luca Coleman-Carr replaced Stefan Oakes, becoming the fourth youngster in as many weeks to make his first team debut for the Imps. Grant hit the crossbar for the visitors before Scott Davies rifled the ball in from 25 yards.

A few minutes later and the season was over and you could tell from the body language of some players that they knew they were going.
